Not having a computer at home meant that I could not coordinate the Nightfall league as I would have hoped, so a big thank you goes out to our Press Ganger, Alan, for picking up the internet side of submitting game results and whatnot.
But wow, Nightfall, what a blast! We had 12 people playing games throughout the three weeks, and on Tuesday nights, at our peak, we had four tables going at once! It was great seeing so many Jack-heads coming out to support and play the game.
For this league, I decided to set aside my Boys in Blue and try out some of the Cryx models I had been collecting and painting. What a refreshing change of pace! (as refreshing as undead can be, I suppose). The first few games I played (against Retribution, Mercs, and Cygnar) I lost, but they were each very close games and I knew I was oh-so-close to pulling out a win.
And then something happened.
I won my next game. And then the next. And the next. The last five games I played, I won, and that includes winning a King of the Hill scenario. Shocking!
I'm not entirely sure what happened. I don't believe it's because Cryx is any nastier than any other faction. I think it was because I began to look at the game strictly in terms of caster kill and how precisely to pull it off (in other words, my chess instincts took over). In the past year and a half that I've been playing Cygnar, I never really focused on how to pull off the caster kill. I had been collecting mostly melee models and putting them in my lists, mechanithralls and bane thralls, etc. At first I was dumbfounded having nothing with which to shoot at my opponent. It took me a little while to get accustomed to change in play styles, but I believe it really suited me.
Anyway, more on this later. First, for now, just a simple post to get back into the swing of things, and say, "No, I'm not dead... I'm undead!"
Red.
